General
A clutch of eggs sits in the middle of a garden. Intruders attempt to sneak through, seeking fortune and riches. One makes an error and crushes an egg underfoot. Suddenly, a giant dinosaur appears out of nowhere and eats all of the troop.
This is what playing Atla feels like. Farming and growing peacefully, until you can coax out the largest monsters the world has ever seen.
What makes Atla Palani Special
Atla is a fairly weak creature, being only a 2/3. However, we can invest mana into her to produce eggs, and eggs turn into giant monsters. The threat of what the eggs can become makes Atla extremely difficult to attack into, which helps to preserve our life total until we can hit our massive dinosaur behemoths.
Gameplan
As with most decks with an enormous top end, early game we want to simply ramp and discourage attacks. Even little dinosaurs, especially those with enrage, can protect us for some time. After we have some resources, we can start using Atla to get some eggs. Using her as a mana sink is a lot like getting free card advantage, since very frequently we are getting free mana out of it and we don't go down a card in hand.
Atla is very resilient to board wipes as well, as if someone were to cast a Wrath of God, even though Atla herself dies, all of the eggs will still hatch and immediately replace our board. Someone unprepared for the level of retaliation we can provide means we will often be able to go for kills immediately after a wipe.
Of course, don't feel afraid to hard cast big dinos. Just because we're not getting max egg value doesn't mean we're not getting any value. Just a few hits from any of our top end can take kills, so look for damage everywhere you can.
It is also important to try and have a sac outlet. This means people cannot remove Atla without you getting egg triggers and it means that you can get more creatures at instant speed. What might be a safe attack with a flier could turn into a Zetalpa, Primal Dawn, a truly terrifying prospect.
